Engaging people with the natural world through art

edited scan.jpg

Sarah combines science and art in producing paintings and illustrations that immerse you in many aspects of the natural world and its processes.  She specialises in pen and ink illustration, but also produces work in graphite pencil, watercolour and gouache.

She hopes to raise awareness of the beauty and fragility of nature in all its forms - from individual species to declining habitats.  Fieldwork and drawing from life plays a large part in the process, along with research; growing and nurturing botanical subjects and working from museum specimens.

In 2021 Sarah's book was published 'Natural History Illustration in Pen and Ink'.  The book is proving to be extremely popular and she hopes it will become an essential reference when illustrating the natural world.

Her love of exploration, both near and far combines with her ecological knowledge; developing her garden to benefit wildlife; and also a passion for teaching.  She has taught for several national botanic gardens, florilegium and botanical art societies and at the ASBA annual conference in the USA.

Sarah is a Fellow of the Linnean Society, a painting member of the Chelsea Physic Garden Florilegium, the Eden Project Florilegium and an exhibiting member of the American Society of Botanical Artists (ASBA).

"I believe that immersing yourself in the natural world alongside drawing and painting, can really help to promote a sense of well-being"
